Return Receipts

When sending mail from eMail2Pop to another AOL member (person@aol.com), you can request a return receipt sent to your AOL e-mail account when the message is read. To do this, compose a message with an AOL member as one of the recipients. To activate the return receipt function, set the message priority to High.

Outlook
Outlook Express
Eudora
Incredimail

After setting your message to high priority, send it once finished.  When your AOL recipient reads the message, you will receive an e-mail stating the time that the message was read.  You can retrieve the return receipts via your e-mail client (just do a Check for E-mail) through eMail2Pop.

If you do not have the High Priority feature in your mail client or can not find the setting or wish to request a return receipt every time, you can open up eMail2Pop Configuration -> SMTP Service -> Request Return Receipt from all AOL Recipients.

Keep as New

By default, a new message is immediately moved to the Old Mail folder when the message is opened. To counteract this action, AOL offers members the ability to flag messages as New (Keep as New). eMail2Pop offers this feature also.

To activate this feature on all accounts via eMail2Pop:

  1. Open up eMail2Pop Configuration. Select POP3 Receive Service
  2. Check the box for Keep As New - Leave Messages in AOL Inbox
eMail2Pop also offers the option of designating only certain accounts to use the Keep as New feature. This is especially useful when you use eMail2Pop from two locations. In order to use this feature, do NOT check the Keep as New option in eMail2Pop Configuration.
To selectively designate accounts for Keep as New:

  1. Open up the e-mail account settings for the account in which you would like to designate Keep as New.
  2. Find the setting for the login username.
  3. Under Username in your e-mail client, add a KAN: prefix to the account name.
(For example, JoeUser123 would now have a login name of KAN:JoeUser123)

Example of adding the KAN: prefix to an account in Outlook Express:
NOTE: Leaving your messages in your Inbox will result in eMail2Pop downloading the previous messages repeatedly. Therefore, this feature is not recommended, unless Keep as New is used on a low volume account, or if the account is not frequently checked.

SPAM E-mail Messages

Occasionally, some e-mail spammers (unsolicited e-mail) attempt to fake advertisement e-mail as originating from legitimate AOL members. Unfortunately, a minor flaw in the AOL e-mail system allows spammers to get away with this method.

By analyzing the e-mail messages that appear as from legitimate AOL members, eMail2Pop can detect some of these messages. eMail2Pop will then change the sender name to SPAM. It is recommended that you delete these messages labeled from SPAM or configure your e-mail client to filter out messages from SPAM.
