eMail2Pop Spam Filter - Options
General Settings

Spam Engine Status Window
The Spam Engine Status area is your information hub for all of eMail2Pop's Spam Filter activities.  If the Spam Filter is enabled with a valid subscription, the engine will report an Online status.  The subscription expiration date is displayed right below the engine status.  If there is no subscription, if the subsciption is expiring soon, or if the subscription has already expired, a subscription purchase/extension can be purchased instantly online by clicking the Upgrade Subscription button.

Upgrade Subscription
Clicking the Upgrade Subscription button will take you to the online order form where you can extend your eMail2Pop license and/or spam filter subscription.  If your subscription has not yet expired, the newly purchased extension period will be added to the expiration date of your current subscription.

Revalidate License
Revalidating license is needed only if your spam filter has been disabled due to an expired or non-existent subscription, and you have recently purchased a subscription for your eMail2Pop license.  Clicking this button will bring up the Registration window.  Click Revalidate license in the Registration window to have eMail2Pop download your new license information.  You will need to shutdown and restart eMail2Pop after revalidating a license.

General Filter Engine Options

Use eMail2Pop Spam Filter
This setting toggles the built-in spam analysis in eMail2Pop.  This setting is disabled if no valid spam filter subscription is found.

Use Online Internet Checks
Enabling this option will allow the spam filter to access the internet to validate the authenticity of the e-mail and query internet blacklists. (Default - Checked)

Access Internet Blocklists
The eMail2Pop spam filter can validate the sender IP address with multiple online blacklist databases to see if the e-mail was sent from a server known for sending spam.  Message analysis times may increase depending upon the speed of the internet connection to the computer.  (Default - Checked)

Prepend Letters to Spam E-mails
If this option is checked, eMail2Pop will add the letters specified in the Letters to Prepend box to the beginning of the subject lines of e-mails that are flagged as spam.  (Default - Checked, ***SPAM***)

Spam Score Tolerance
The eMail2Pop Spam Filter uses a scoring system to determine which e-mails will be flagged as spam.  The spam filter analyzes various traits of e-mail messages and assigns a score based upon the likelihood of the e-mail being spam.  If the score exceeds the defined tolerance level, the e-mail will be flagged as spam.  A higher tolerance score means that fewer messages will be flagged as spam.  (Default - 4.5)

Use Bayesian Filtering / Learn New Messages
Bayesian Filtering is the auto-learning (self-teaching) system.  If auto-learning is enabled using Learn New Messages, then for each e-mail analyzed by the spam filter, the contents of the e-mail message will be broken into individual words and phrases and recorded into a database on your computer. If the Bayesian Filtering feature is selected, then when the e-mail is analyzed, its words and phrases will be compared with the database of past e-mails, and a score will be assigned based upon the likelihood of the e-mail being analyzed to be spam just by looking at its word content.  (Default - Checked)

Run Filter as Background Process (Yield CPU to Other Programs)
Because the eMail2Pop spam filter is very CPU intensive by its analytical nature, eMail2Pop automatically assigns it a "low priority" setting so your computer will not experience slowdowns while analyzing e-mail messages.  Disabling this feature will result in faster e-mail analysis, but other programs may function slower than normal while the spam filter is performing computations.
