eMail2Pop Spam Filter
Getting Started - Tutorial

This page will outline all of the basic functions of the eMail2Pop Spam Filter.

Purchasing a Subscription

eMail2Pop's spam filter feature requires a subscription in addition to the user license to use eMail2Pop.  Subscriptions can be purchased online at the online upgrade center.

Setting Up the E-mail Client

When eMail2Pop marks a message as SPAM, it will appear marked as spam in your e-mail client.  However, the e-mail client must be configured to separate spam-identified e-mails.  Follow the instructions applicable to your e-mail client:

Microsoft Outlook Express - Spam Filter Configuration
Microsoft Outlook 2003 - Spam Filter Configuration
Qualcomm Eudora - Spam Filter Configuration
Incredimail - Spam Filter Configuration

The eMail2Pop Main Interface

The eMail2Pop main window (picture on the right) is the information hub on the status of all of eMail2Pop's services.  The Spam Filter is divided into two lines:

The first line shows the number of positive spam e-mails, the total number of e-mails downloaded today, and the spam-to-total ratio.
The second line shows the cumulative total of positive spam e-mails since eMail2Pop was installed, the cumulative total of e-mails analyzed, and the resulting percentage.

eMail2Pop's spam filter is a subscription based service.  If your subscription expires, the Spam Filter status will show an expired status.  Click on the status to open the order form.

Spam Filter Options

The spam filter options can be accessed from the Spam Filter menu in the Main Interface or from the menu that pops up after right-clicking the mailbox tray icon.

The Quick Access Menu
Tray Menu

The Quick Access Menu can be accessed by right-clicking the little mailbox icon in your Windows system tray (usually on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen next to the clock).  The Spam Filter list allows you to do three things:

1) Add an entry to the Black/Whitelist to manually designate specific senders as spam or non-spam
2) Access Filter Options
3) Easily allow/block a sender from e-mail that has recently been downloaded.

Quick Blacklist/Whitelist Window

Options 1 and 3 are the same, except that the e-mail address will already by filled in if an e-mail address is chosen from the Quick Access Menu.  When the small window pops up, you can choose to Blacklist or Whitelist a specific e-mail address or e-mail domain.  If an e-mail address is abc@xyz.com, then the domain is xyz.com.  You can block all e-mail from xyz.com by typing in xyz.com in the box.  Once you are finished, click Accept to instantly update the spam filter rules.

If at any time you change your mind about a black or white listing, you can modify the lists in Filter Options.

If the Spam Filter Subscription Expires

eMail2Pop's spam filter is a subscription based service.  The expiration date for the spam filtering subscription can be accessed in Filter Options.  The status of both the license to use eMail2Pop and the spam filtering subscription can be accessed online at the eMail2Pop License Upgrade Website.

The spam subscription period can be extended at any time.  To ensure uninterrupted service, it is recommended that a subscription extension is purchased at least one month prior to the expiration of the subscription.  Subscriptions purchased will be added to any remaining valid periods, so if a 6-month subscription is purchased when there are 2 months left on the current subscription, the expiration date of the current subscription will be extended to 8 months.  Once a subscription extension is purchased, it may take up to ten days for the new expiration date to be downloaded into eMail2Pop.

If a spam subscription is purchased after the expiration of the previous subscription, it may be necessary to force eMail2Pop to update the license information.  To do this, open eMail2Pop Options (not Filter Options), click Registration, and click Reverify License Information.
